It's Time for the Fair!

evbluepoppedtrunkIf you missed the Smarttchallenge event in Raleigh, NC where high schools were challenged to build an electric car on May 15-16, 2009... Have no fear. It's that time of year again. Go to the link above to catch the dates for this event. The schools topic is "The History, Current State, and Advantages of Electric Vehicles". Make sure you catch it... the last events for this years Smarttchallenge is scheduled for May 14-15, 2010. Dave who attended the event last year, had this to say about the event...

I have many photos showing the layout of the vehicles. The vehicles ranged from a Porsche to small pickups. Perhaps the neatest conversion was a Toyota MR2. They made fabric covered panels to hide the electricals from everyday use.

To see more go to the Dave's Smarttchallenge Getaway link.

Check out the The 21st Midwest Renewable Energy Fair June 18-20, 2010 Energy Fair in Custer, WI! We've heard great things about this fair as well :)

Go to greencarvideos.blogspot.com to see what our friend Ben thought about it last year.

It takes some planning before you can start an EV project. So, get out a note book, go the Library, check out some successful and not so successful builds, and hatch a plan. It's kind of like doing a senior project before you graduate, except you really want to do it...

Here is a great learning link... (EV University will be starting soon... check their site for details!)

Also, check out the Spring and Summer Fairs for some great educational EV conversion experiences.

babyincarseatMeet Me at the Fair

"Meet me in St. Louis, Louis..." hmmm that's not right. But, meeting at the fair is great idea for the family. Just in time for Spring, several Energy Fairs are going on around the globe. These fairs often time showcase a number of children activities, venders, public awareness groups, non-profits, music, food, presentations, and games and prizes. Our local Energy fair even showcases an EV car race.

We have found that, one of the best ways to get inspired about an EV conversion project is to check out what other EV builders are doing. A great place to see these types of projects is at the electric vehicle or energy fair near you. Most often, you are sure to catch several professional, semi-professional, and homespun electric vehicles at an Energy Fair. We have noticed that some mid-size to large cities will have at least one during the year. We are currently in the season for Fairs; so we'll be updating this page with information and links to various EV events going on this summer. We'd like to add to our list, so if you know of any EV or Energy Fairs in your area, tell us about it. We'd love to post it.

Check out these events which maybe near you:

Stop by the 9th annual Illinois Renewable Energy and Sustainable Lifestyle Fair which will be held August 7th and 8th, 2010 at the Ogle County Fairgrounds in Oregon, IL.
