Are you on the Donor List?
One of the major first steps of an Electric Vehicle conversion is to find a 'Donor Car' as the term goes. What that means is, try to fine one that is going to work for your project for as cheap as you can, preferably free. There are, of course, certain standards that you must have for a decent donor car. For example, it helps if the transmission is in great condition. However, even that doesn't have to be an issue depending on the car you get, and the relative ease of finding replacement parts for that style of body. Ultimately, you end up choosing what's needed for the functionality and durability of the car verses the aesthetics. That's exactly what we did. We gave up some of the aesthetic standards for the best buy, which was nearly free.
Finding a donor car is a very exciting experience. Try not to become to impatient; you could miss out on some great finds. We'll be giving you some tips on what you might want to look for in the continuation of this article. Also, if you have specific questions about your own search for donor car, we'd love to try and help you find an answer. Until then, you should check out some of the finds that other EV builders have found. This will help you get a better idea for what you are looking for in your own EV conversion.

Charge it Please...
A smile spreads across my face every time we drive up to the gas station, pass up the pump, buy a slurp, and wave goodbye to everyone emptying their wallets (ah... I mean filling up their tanks). Yep, you sure won't miss the pump having an electric car. Even on a bike, it is so much fun. When you are going to work on your electric bike, and your pass up cars in traffic... oh yeah.
So, this article is all about how EV owners keep on keeping on in their electric vehicles. We charge it. This may be a concern for some of you. If you are thinking about where the energy comes from in your cities grid, no worries. First of all, many cities today give you an option on how you want your electrical energy to come to you; via clean methods or not. And even if you don't have that option, the cost and effects of the energy you would use to charge it up are so much cheaper and far less of a contributor to pollution than fossil fuel fumes.
On the other hand maybe you really don't care about where your electricity comes from and you only want to save money. Well, for you and everyone else, let me suggest solar power. Plug in to the sun. Hey, even in the great NW where we reside, solar energy is an excellent way charge up.
However, most people don't have solar panels, and can't take them with them when they travel. So, we will focus the first part of this article on where to charge up when you are away from home. We'll be updating this page with new listings as we discover them and will later archive this information. So to help us out, if you know of any charging stations in your city, contact us and tell us about it. We'd love to post it.
